British Educational Research Association Post Graduate Forum

BERA are holding a series of events which are symposia are for early stage postgraduate researchers in education – from those finishing a Master’s and looking to progress beyond, to those in the early stages of doctoral work. The aim is to provide a safe but critical ‘space’. Participants will give 15-minute presentations about their research followed by constructive feedback and discussion sessions with their peers.

The aim of these meetings is to gather a broad spectrum of researchers to discuss their nascent research and share their triumphs, troubles and experiences. The sessions will be led by an experienced educational researcher who will help guide and structure the event, but at the core of the symposia is peer review and support. Participation will give an excellent opportunity for PGR students to develop their research ideas, presentation skills and also relevant networks. The events will run from 11.00 to c.16.30, and lunch and refreshments will be provided. Each will have a maximum of 10 people, to allow time for everyone to participate.

The three meetings are being held in different locations; Wales DTC members may find the South West event (12 August, Marlborough College) the closest to attend, although the South East Event (12 July, King’s College London) may be more convenient for some. The application deadline for the latter is 28 May while the deadline for the former is 28 June. There is also an event in Glasgow on 11 October, for which the deadline is 28 August. BERA is offering travel bursaries of up to £100 per person for five applicants to each event.
